College & High School Credit

College Credit

College Credit is uniform nationally, it does not depend on the state one is in. It depends on whether or not the home university will accept the course.
Undergraduate Credit may be arranged for FLSAS Foreign Language Programs and,
in some cases, the non-language Cultural & Activity Programs.

Undergraduate Credit is available to all those 14 & older.

The number of credits, type of credit, costand number of weeks required will depend on the program selected and requirements of the individual student and the college/university that will accept the credit.

Colleges and universities as a general rule do not like to accept college credit for programs other than the programs offered by their school. If someone in your college or university says that you will get credit for a study abroad program, please get it in writing.

College Credit is a source of income for colleges & universities. They do not like to award credit to other programs because they lose the income. Some colleges & universities do support students getting credit for programs other than their own; others do not.

High School Credit

High School Credit is very local. It depends on the state, school or school district. Students can receive high school credit, but it may require negotiating. It is easier for high school students to get College Credit.

Important Note: If you get credit for a course, and go back and take the same course in high school, you will not receive college credit for it.
