Foreign Language Study Abroad for Kids

FLSAS Children Study Abroad focuses on foreign language immersion programs that emphasize language learning along with age appropriate activities and materials.

Every year there are more and more options available for younger children.

There are programs that exist for students to study ALONE or WITH PARENTS.

Parents realize that the younger children start to learn a foreign language, the better it is. Unfortunately many schools and school districts do not offer foreign language possibilities for younger students.

Parents can send unaccompanied children to some programs; others require an adult to accompany the child.

There are Residence Hall Programs and HomeStay Programs.

There is nothing “general” that can be prepared; it is really on a case by case, language by language, basis.

Childen Study Abroad Programs are for children who:

  • want to get a head start in language studies;

  • are in a situation where children around them are speaking a foreign language;

  • are in a school that does not offer a foreign language till the upper grades.

  • wants to start a language not offered in his/her school;

  • wants to experience another culture;

  • loves languages.

Options include:

All Children Study Abroad Programs have been chosen for quality:

  • of age appropriate language instruction and materials,

  • of age appropriate cultural activities & excursions,

  • of the administrative staff,

  • of age appropriate living accommodations (Residence Hall or HomeStays),

  • and for the variety of age appropriate sports and other leisure/social activities.

The following applies to most children study abroad programs (each program is a bit different):

  • Students may go alone (independently) or as part of a small group or a group of parents and children. Friends may attend together.

  • All Levels are Accepted: Absolute Beginner to Native Speaker. (Native Speakers frequently need to improve grammar skills and conversation skills).

  • It is not about what you already know, but about what you want to learn.

  • These programs are either HomeStays or Residence Halls.

  • All programs have a very complete age appropriate Cultural / Leisure / SportsProgram. The program is a combination of Excursions, Special Events, and Cultural Activities, both on-site and in the area.

  • All activities, social and cultural, are geared to specific age groups.

  • Excellent Supervision.

  • PARENTS WHO ALSO WANT FOREIGN LANGUAGE LESSONS, PLEASE SEE “FAMILY & FRIENDS STUDY ABROAD.”
